Burial, Four Tet + Thom Yorke. How’s that for a combo?
Not many people know, but many years ago when Thom Yorke was at university in Exeter, he was a bit of a DJ playing house music. His love of electronic music has clearly influenced Radiohead’s interesting directions over the years. And as for DJing, he’s still doing that now. He did a brilliant show with Gilles Peterson last year, and in this clip, he’s taking the roof in LA, playing Burial and Modeselektor’s Kill Bill Vol. 4. Wow!
Gold Panda is brilliant.
If you like the music of Au, it is helpful to know that it’s pronounced Ayy-you. That’s been bugging me for a long time and stopped me mentioning them to anybody. Here is one of their better known songs from the album Verbs, which interestingly, some chap has placed over some videos of dances from around the world. In order of appearance we have:
Angel Echoes (Caribou remix) by Four Tet
Mala - Don’t Let Me Go (4.15) by Soul Jazz Records
This has shot right to the top of my list of things to take up…
