Day 1: Maasai Mara

An early start from Kisumu this morning - south 6 hours to the Maasai Mara. The road was good for the first couple of hours, before disintegrating a very bumpy track. We are staying at Kilimi Lodge and I approached sitting on the rooftop of Beryl, our not-so-trusty vehicle.

We went for a game drive around 4pm where we saw so much wildlife, all under a beautiful sky, made from thick, blotched clouds of deep blues and dark greys while the sun pushed through turning the grass a golden yellow.

We saw lots of bucks, wilderbeests, zebras. Early on, we also saw a lion and lioness by the road side, resting as they do for about 20 hours of the day. 

I felt quite emotional seeing elephants in the wild for the first time. They are extraordinary animals. Ostriches are pretty cool too: large jurassic like birds. Towards the end of our drive, the colours really erupted through the clouds, making the grass glow against the dark rich clouds, it was a magical moment of technicolors.
