If you are a Sufjan Stevens fan, then you may like to check out a charming debut album by The Welcome Wagon. They are not a band as such. In fact, they are a married couple, the Rev Vito Aiuto and his wife Monique, with production coming from Sufjan himself.
I find most ‘Christian’ bands pretty terrible to my taste, but that may be my lack of exploration. This album however, is mighty fine. Rich instrumentation and harmonies in songs seem to be the only thing that gets me going with bands (or couples) today. This album is full of that. And there is a sprinkle of well chosen traditional songs and covers that fit well in the album, including Velvet Underground’s Jesus – a brilliant song in itself.
